Michigan quarterback Bryce Underwood recently caught some strays from Super Bowl champ, Eric Weddle, who shared his blunt thoughts on the former 5-star recruit.
Underwood reacted to Weddle’s criticism with a one-word message that said “stay” accompanied by a laughing emoji on Instagram.
Weddle said that he can confidently say the fans could see the Michigan backup quarterback playing early in the season as he believes what he saw from Underwood wasn’t too impressive.
Weddle argued that Underwood cant really throw or play quarterback and even predicted that he will end up playing DB in the NFL.
“like, I try to teach like coach Gaige (his son), you are a quarterback first who can be an athlete, you’re not an athlete who plays quarterback.”
“So I have taught him from the ground up. From pocket awareness, from timing to footwork, like, all that stuff matters because at the end of the day, your athleticism can only take over so much. You get to the next level, everyone’s as fast as you, everyone’s as strong as you, like, your mind processing pocket awareness feel and getting the ball out on time is what I’ve stressed to him most as a quarterback.”
Analyst Gets 100% Real on Bryce Underwood’s Development Under Jason Beck
NBC analyst Todd Blackledge opened up about his visit to Ann Arbor this spring and expressed optimism about the program for the 2026 season.
During his conversation on the Y-Option Podcast with Yogi Roth, Blackledge shared that Underwood definitely looked more comfortable, given he is now in a different system.
Blackledge said that Underwood’s comfort can be attributed to the games he played in the 2025 college football season.
“I think that he’s a very serious kid when it comes to work, training, and preparation. I mean, he wants to be in the building. He wants to be great, wants to be coached. And I think Jason Beck is going to be great for him.” Blackledge added.
In the 2025 college football season completed 60% of his throws, scored 17 touchdowns against nine interceptions and averaged 216 total yards per game.
