Brendan Sorsby has been under scrutiny from college football fans after the Texas Tech QB admitted to having a gambling addiction and announced he’ll be stepping away from the team for the foreseeable future.
Sorsby’s decision came after the newly transferred QB was outed for placing multiple bets on the Indiana Hoosiers while being an active part of the roster. While Sorsby has not faced any charges for influencing the outcomes of these games, the NCAA’s strict gambling policies can lead to severe punishment.

Cincinnati Bearcats Were Aware Of Brendan Sorsby’s Gambling Addiction
According to a report by Matt Hayes of USAToday, Cincinnati was fully aware of Brendan Sorsby’s gambling problems as well as the potential backlash since the start of the 2025 college football season.
However, the program decided not to report the QB’s rule violations to the NCAA. Now, with the entire situation coming to light, the Bearcats will also be under the microscope and could be facing punishment for allowing the star QB to take the field.
As for Sorsby, while there are no official police charges, so far, the NCAA can levy a permanent college eligibility loss, prohibiting the quarterback from playing any college sport. According to ESPN, the punishment can become harsher depending on the wagers in Sorsby’s case, there were hundreds of bets placed.
