Bruins football head coach Bob Chesney is rebuilding UCLA at a rapid pace this offseason. In the latest news, he secured the commitment of wide receiver Rob Larson in the Class of 2027.
Larson went with UCLA over offers from Vanderbilt, Washington and California. Larson announced his decision on social media, writing:
“Something special Bruin #4sUP”
The 6-foot-3, 200-pound receiver is ranked No. 530 nationally, No. 74 in his position and No. 47 in California, per Rivals Industry Rankings.
This latest recruitment from Chesney has fans in split reactions. Some cherished it, while fans of rival programs made jokes about his recruiting spree.

Bob Chesney Turning it Around for UCLA After Disappointing Season
After James Madison was named to the College Football Playoff in 2025, Bob Chesney was hired by UCLA. Despite the hire, the Bruins allowed Chesney to remain with James Madison through their playoff run.
Chesney was formally announced as the Bruins’ head coach on Dec. 5 as he takes over a program that recorded a dismal 3-9 season. At the time, UCLA’s recruiting rank was nowhere near the national spotlight. Now, we hear about their new commitments every other day.
Under Chesney, UCLA has already climbed to around a top-10 recruiting class nationally, a massive leap from No. 59 the previous year. The program also boasts a top-35 transfer portal class.
Chesney has notably secured commitments of four-star offensive lineman Jackson Roper (top-10 OL nationally and No. 1 in Colorado), four-star cornerback Juju Johnson (top-3 corner in his class, four-star cornerback Jerry Outhouse Jr. (flipped from Georgia), four-star linebacker Colton McKibben (top-ranked recruit from New Mexico) and three-star running back/corner Duece Jones-Drew (son of Maurice Jones-Drew).
The season is still young and Chesney could secure more such commitments still. However, it will be important to see how he can manage to retain these commitments till the time of signing comes.
