Bill Belichick Makes Presence Felt as he Lands CFP Role Despite Poor UNC Start

Bill Belichick’s college football debut didn’t go as expected. The North Carolina Tar Heels recorded a 4-8 season, including 2-6 in the Atlantic Coast Conference. However, despite that, Belichick has landed a role for the upcoming College Football Playoff National Championship Game between the Miami Hurricanes and the Indiana Hoosiers.

The eight-time Super Bowl-winning coach was named as the guest analyst for coverage of the College Football Playoff National Championship Game on the ACC Network. To cover ACC’s Miami in the championship game, the conference has arranged for extensive coverage, with Belichick expected to appear on shows like ACC Huddle and Field Pass with ACC Huddle.

It’s important to note that Belichick is one of the greatest college football coaches of all time. Under his reign, the New England Patriots won seven Super Bowls. Before that, as an assistant, he won a Super Bowl.

Belichick previously featured on Peyton Manning’s Omaha Productions when he was out of a job for one season. He was fired by the Patriots in Jan. 2024 before the North Carolina Tar Heels came to him with an offer the following December. In the 2024 season, Belichick worked on the “ManningCast” for Monday Night Football.

UNC HC Bill Belichick Makes Major Coaching Changes After Failed 2025 Season

Bill Belichick responded to the 4-8 season by shaking up his coaching roster. He fired offensive coordinator Freddie Kitchens and special teams coordinator Mike Priefer.

“We want to thank Coach Kitchens and Coach Priefer for their commitment and many contributions to our program and student-athletes,” Belichick said in a statement. “We wish them both nothing but the best in their future endeavors.”

The decision was taken after the Tar Heels struggled on both sides of the ball. As such, the program and Belichick are trying to reset direction after a tough first year in college football.

Despite the massive backlash off the field, UNC has reportedly committed to Bill Belichick “for at least another year.” However, the decision was rooted in the expensive buyout Belichick’s contract includes.
