The New York Yankees may not win a World Series, and it’s not because of the players. According to New York Sports radio host Al Cintron, Yankees manager Aaron Boone is not the right person to see this team through.
On Friday, Cintron went on a full-blown rant against Boone and his approach to the Yankees’ strikeout problem. During the series against the Tampa Bay Rays, the Yankees struck out 45 times while drawing just two walks over three games.
While Boone acknowledged the problem, the manager doesn’t find it necessary that the team’s approach needs a complete overhaul. It didn’t sit well with Cintron, who then claimed that the Yankees won’t win a World Series with this manager.
“I do think there’s a problem with the approach,” Cintron said. “There’s no way in hell a major league team should have 45 strikeouts to two walks. No way. There’s a problem with the approach. So I don’t care what Aaron Boone says. I stand by this: they will never win a World Series with him as the manager. They won’t. You can get to one, but win one? No. I don’t think he’s the guy to take you there to the championship.”
Cintron also doubts Boone’s ability to outsmart NL contenders like the Los Angeles Dodgers, Philadelphia Phillies and Atlanta Braves.
“Does he have what it takes to outmanage the Dodgers, outmanage the Braves, or, if it’s the Phillies?” Cintron continued. “He’s had his share of brain farts that have frustrated Yankees fans. It’s frustrating to watch. Again, I don’t think the Yankees are going to win a World Series with Aaron Boone as the manager.”
Yankees Confident in Manager Aaron Boone
Despite the Yankees losing their first-place spot in the AL East while losing 15 of their past 20 games, the club has a lot of confidence in Aaron Boone to turn things around.
The latest vote of confidence came from Yankees general manager Brian Cashman, who called the manager a “hard worker.”
“I think he’s a very hard worker, very well connected,” Cashman said. “I think he’s prepared. I think he’s pulling every lever he possibly can. Nothing more than I’ve said before.”
Boone’s contract will carry the manager through the 2027 season. It doesn’t seem like he is going to leave anytime soon, and the organization also has full faith in him. But some Yankees fans would like a change at the managerial position and one among them is Al Cintron.
