“Truly Unfair For Red Sox” – Fans React After Boston Squad Gets Stranded In Chicago, Arrive In NYC Just 2 Hours Before Mets Series

The Boston Red Sox were in a race against time as they were scheduled to face the New York Mets at 7:15 pm ET on Friday after wrapping up the series in Chicago against the White Sox.

Their departure from Chicago Midway was first delayed because of a broken aircraft tug, leaving the team sitting on the plane for hours before returning to a hotel around 2 am. Then, on Friday morning, a cockpit light bulb malfunction caused additional delays before the charter finally departed around 3 pm.

The team landed in New York at around 5 pm and headed directly to Citi Field, so that they could be there roughly two hours before the originally scheduled first pitch. Their gear also arrived shortly afterward.

To accommodate and give Boston time to prepare, MLB pushed the game back to 7:50 pm.

In light of this, fans shared their thoughts on whether MLB should have done better with rescheduling, perhaps by scheduling a doubleheader on Saturday or Sunday.

During the chaotic trip, there was at least one bright spot. Outfielder Ceddanne Rafaela learned he was selected to the American League All-Star team. This prompted celebrations aboard the plane

Red Sox’s Chaotic Trip To New York End in Win

After completing the three-game sweep against the White Sox, the Red Sox hoped to continue the momentum at Citi Field. The misfortunes caught up to them. First, with the flight delays, and then requiring to be prepared for the game in a matter of a few hours.

Despite the chaos, the Red Sox prevailed.

The visitors started the game strong, scoring two runs in the first inning with the help of Masataka Yoshida’s two-run double. The Mets cut the lead in half with Juan Soto’s sac fly in the third inning off Sonny Gray.

The Red Sox added more runs in the seventh with the help of Anthony Seigler’s two-run homer off AJ Minter. Wilyer Abreu’s two-run homer solidified their lead to 6-1 at the top of the ninth inning.

Brett Baty ignited the hopes of Citi Field for a second with his solo blast in the final inning. However, Greg Weissert made sure to limit the damage in the inning for the 6-2 win.
