“We Define That as ‘He’s Lazy'” – Radio Host Explains Why Jazz Chisholm Jr.’s Smooth Style Turns Off Fans

Jazz Chisholm Jr. may hold an attribute similar to former New York Yankees star Robinson Cano in how they go about their business on the field. Both players have an easy, fluid style that can be interpreted by some fans as a lack of hustle.

WFAN Sports Radio host Craig Carton also shares this viewpoint since both infielders are/were effortless in the field.

“Jazz Chisholm is one of those guys where, and I think we had it with Robinson Canó, just to give you a Yankee-to-Yankee comparison, some guys are just so smooth athletically,” the radio host said on Wednesday.

“The way they run, the way they walk even, the way they field their position, it seems effortless. We define that in our heads as, ‘Oh, he’s lazy. He doesn’t care. He’s not putting his all into it.’ And I think Jazz is just so smooth athletically that there are some people who get turned off by that.”

For the Yankees fan, the comparison stands out, given they will need to decide on impending free agent Chisholm’s future.

Cano helped the Yankees win their 27th championship in 2009. During his tenure with the Yankees from 2005 to 2013, he became an All-Star five times and won two Gold Gloves as well. He also finished in the top 10 of AL MVP voting multiple times, including a fourth-place finish in 2012 after hitting .313 with 33 home runs and 94 RBIs.

If the Yankees see enough potential in Chisholm, seeing him succeed as Cano did in the Bronx won’t be too far-fetched.

Jazz Chisholm Jr. Opens Up About Free Agency Expectations

Six months ago, Jazz Chisholm Jr. said he is hoping for an offer in the region of 8-10 years with a deal worth over $300 million.

“What did I tell you last year? $300 million? It’s probably bigger than that now, probably $35 million,” Chisholm said. “I’m 28. I want 8-10 years.”

Chisholm is earning $10.2 million this year and is having an inconsistent season, though he remains confident in his mechanics. The Yankees star is batting .225 with 16 home runs and 43 RBIs after 97 games this season. His versatility solves many problems for the Yankees defensively. And since his name is not being floated around enough before the trade deadline, the Yankees are hoping to sign an extension with the second baseman.

Chisholm might like that very much since he has already said that he wants to win a World Series with the Yankees.
