Pirates ace Paul Skenes is having a less-than-ideal season, with a 9-8 record, a 3.43 ERA, 138 strikeouts, and a 1.04 WHIP. As the Aug. 3 trade deadline approaches, rumors that teams are targeting him are mounting, though Pittsburgh remains firm in its stance not to trade him. Now, senior MLB analyst Jon Heyman has published a controversial article that fans have not received well.
According to the article, Heyman speculated that Skenes’ girlfriend, Olivia Dunne, looking for an apartment in NYC could signal that the Yankees might be interested in signing the talented RHP. Furthermore, Heyman acknowledged the player’s stance and the view of his current recruiters that he will not be moved in this trade window. Fans criticized Heyman for writing what they believe is a speculative article.
“This is embarrassing even for you,” commented one fan.
According to the article, Dunne reportedly expressed interest in buying Babe Ruth’s former apartment on the Upper West Side last summer, sparking rumors that the Yankees, who have long shown interest in the three-time All-Star, were targeting him. Skenes, however, is committed to the Pirates for now.
