Oklahoma Sooners star Trey Gambill shared an inspiring quote after the team advanced to the CWS championship series by defeating SEC rival Georgia in Game 12 at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha, NB, on Wednesday. Gambill’s comments came during a postgame interview with the SEC ESPN panel covering the CWS.
In his reflection, Gambill praised his team’s offense, which lit up the fireworks against Georgia in the crucial match, ultimately beating them 11-4. Furthermore, the OF reflected on the hardships the team endured during the regular season and how they steadied the ship and kept marching ahead with great optimism.
“I think the talent’s always been there throughout the year… there’s been ups and downs. But our preparation and hard work have never changed throughout the entire year, and we always talk about it, especially in the SEC; it’s a dogfight. You’re going to get punched in the face. You’re going to bleed from the mouth. The question is, do you like the taste of blood? Are you going to be okay with it? For us, we just keep fighting, keep going,” Gambill said.
Rallying behind the outfielder’s inspiring words, the fans responded with great enthusiasm and shared their thoughts on social media.
Gambill had one of his best years with the Sooners in 2026. He is batting .293 with 55 hits, including 12 doubles, one triple, and 10 home runs. He has scored 47 runs and has 35 RBIs. Gambill has a slugging percentage of .527 and an on-base percentage of .444. He has primarily started 57 games for Oklahoma this season in the outfield.
Trey Gambill Credits the Highly Competitive SEC for Preparing the Roster for CWS
Gambill credited SEC competition for preparing the Sooners for the College World Series finals, where they have now reached the summit clash and are set to go toe-to-toe with the Tar Heels.
“I think the SEC just offers a great preparation, period, for this type of tournament. There’s no breaks. Just like in this tournament, you’re not playing any bad teams. You’re not playing any mediocre teams. You’re playing the best of the best. So the SEC just prepared us for always being ready to put our best out there,” Gambill said in the CWS news conference on Friday.
The finals start Saturday night, with Oklahoma aiming for its first title since 1994. The Sooners have two national championships in the program’s history. Could this be No. 3? We have to wait and find out when game 1 commences on June 20.
