Boston Red Sox’s Marcelo Mayer faced criticism from Red Sox podcaster Nick Face after the infielder posted a picture featuring his girlfriend on Instagram. However, baseball fans defended the infielder, criticizing Face for commenting on a player’s personal life.

Mayer posted the picture with his girlfriend from Fenway Park on his Instagram story on Thursday. This came after he performed poorly, going hitless in three at-bats against the Toronto Blue Jays. The Red Sox lost the game, 4-3, suffering a series sweep.

On the same day, Face, the host of the “Red Sox Digest” podcast, shared Mayer’s IG story on X.

“Really dude?” Face wrote on X. “Your team SUCKS (Marcelo Mayer) and this is what you put out on your Gram? Congrats on your GF but how about giving some effort to improving your skills to better the BASEBALL team! Be better!”

Face’s comment about Mayer’s personal life didn’t sit well with the majority of baseball fans. They let their feelings on X.

Both Mayer and the Red Sox are having a disastrous campaign. Boston (29-43) sits at the bottom of the American League East. Only the Colorado Rockies (28-47) have a worse record than Red Sox.

Meanwhile, Mayer’s batting average in 2026 is just .216. He has hit just four homers in 64 games. The infielder is earning a base salary of $783,500 under pre-arbitration eligibility and is under team control through 2032.

    Who Is Marcelo Mayer’s Girlfriend?

Marcelo Mayer’s girlfriend is Camryn Bergman. Baseball fans first got to know about their relationship when the couple attended an NBA game together in December. However, no details regarding Bergman, even her name, was avaialable at the time.

Bergman sporadically appeared in Mayer’s Instagram posts, but he didn’t tag her. His Instagram story on Thursday was the first time he tagged her on his social media post.

According to her LinkedIn, Bergman is a finance professional and student, based in Boston, Massachusetts. She attended Northeastern University, majoring in digital communication and media.

Bergam currently interns at Deal Flow Xchange. She has previously worked part-time at NeighborWorks Housing Solutions and MMRE Capital Partners, LLC.

Bergman has a younger brother, Erik. According to his LinkedIn, Erick is an architecture student at Wentworth Institute of Technology.
