“DFA This Guy Now”;”Get This Bum off the Team” – Fans Rip Trevor Story for Comments on Craig Breslow After Red Sox Shakeup

Boston Red Sox shortstop Trevor Story criticized the team’s management after they unexpectedly fired manager Alex Cora and five other coaching staff members on Saturday. Chief baseball officer Craig Breslow responded to media inquiries about the recent upheaval over the weekend.

However, Story disagreed with the management’s approach, stating they should have consulted the clubhouse first.

“I mean, obviously, it’s kind of up in the air what the true direction of the franchise is. Some of the best coaches in the world didn’t get a fair shot,” Story had previously remarked.

On Monday, after the series opener against the Blue Jays at Rogers Center, Story was asked to comment on his previous statements about the Red Sox management and whether there was any fallout with Breslow.

“Yeah, we talked, baseball’s a crazy game, and it’s a business at the end of the day. Those conversations will stay between us, but you saw or heard how I felt about the whole situation yesterday. It’s about having these tough conversations. Whether you agree or disagree, we both want the Red Sox to win,” he said.

Red Sox fans took exception to Story’s comments and lashed out at the veteran ballplayer for not being more accountable and for his ongoing struggles at the plate since joining the Red Sox in 2022.

“Get this bum off the team next!!!” one fan commented.

“This guy is one of the top 5 worst contracts in Red Sox history. Not once does he say he needs to be accountable. DFA this guy now,” another fan commented.

“Who cares what he thinks? His boss made a decision and deal with it- Karen Story,” yet another fan commented.

Some other fans pointed out Story’s inconsistencies in both departments of the game, with many claiming he should be let go for anything in return in these trying times.

“It’s a shame that he can’t translate anything positive onto the field, in general,” one fan commented.

“He’s been a complete swing and miss in his time in Boston; send him elsewhere for whatever return you can get at this point,” another fan commented.

“So glad it’s his last season. It would only be better if they offloaded him this year. He’s worth a few double-A players, maybe,” yet another fan commented.

Trevor Story Feels Confident he Can Perform Better at the Shortstop Position

Story was back at shortstop in the infield during the series opener against the Blue Jays. Since the start of the 2026 campaign, Story has been inconsistent defensively and has committed some errors while fielding at SS.

Still, the 33-year-old feels he can perform better, given his extensive experience at the position and his confidence in fulfilling his duties.

Yeah, I feel good, man. The physical side is something I have to be on every single day. And I feel good about that. We’re putting in the right work to be able to go out there and play the way I want,” Story said.

“I showed that I can last year. I don’t think much changes in four months. So obviously didn’t get off to a great start there with the four errors, but I’m confident, and I know I can do it,” he added.

While the roster acclimates to play under the new leadership of interim manager Chad Tracy, the Red Sox will aim to win back-to-back intra-divisional series and approach the .500 mark by next week.
