“Rafael Devers Trade Wreaking Havoc,” “White Sox Loading Up” – Fans React as Chicago Acquires Jordan Hicks from Red Sox

The Chicago White Sox traded for right-hander Jordan Hicks from the Boston Red Sox in a trade on Sunday. Chicago also received right-handed pitching prospect David Sandlin, cash considerations, and two players to be named later.

In exchange, the Red Sox received pitching prospect Gage Ziehl and a player to be named later. The Red are reportedly sending $8 million in cash considerations to cover Hicks’ remaining salary.

Fans reacted to this trade in a mixed way.

“White Sox loading up,” one fan reacted.

“Rafael Devers trade wreaking havoc,” another commented.

“WOW sox are now way better team 😂” one fan added.

“White Sox continue to climb out of worst in AL territory!” one fan wrote.

“Hicks could be a really good bullpen addition for them,” another wrote.

“Sandlin adds future value, Hicks adds present impact. Clear split in timelines,” another added.

“White Sox just snagged flamethrower Jordan Hicks + prospect David Sandlin from the Red Sox for Gage Ziehl—smart payroll play with upside in the arms!” one fan wrote.

Reason Behind Red Sox’s Decision to Trade Jordan Hicks

The Red Sox have been falling through the cracks ever since trading Rafael Devers to the San Francisco Giants and then losing Alex Bregman in free agency. The latest move to trade away Jordan Hicks signals the Red Sox’s money-saving strategy.

Hicks was owed about $24 to $25 million over the next two seasons, and the Red Sox sent cash to Chicago to get most of that salary off their books.

In 2025, Hicks had one of the worst seasons of his career, posting an 8.20 ERA and 1.98 WHIP in 21 appearances, where he went 1-2 and recorded two saves as well. His best season came with the Toronto Blue Jays in 2023, posting a 2.62 ERA in 25 games.

While he has high-velocity stuff and flexibility as a starter or reliever, his recent performance didn’t align with the expectations of his contract, leading Boston to move him. Moreover, the Red Sox’s decision to part ways with a top pitching prospect does not look good as analysts don’t rate this trade highly for them.
