MLB Trade Rumors: Pirates Interested In Marcell Ozuna After Eugenio Suarez-Reds Deal, Zac Gallen Expected To Reunite With Diamondbacks

With Eugenio Suarez signing a one-year, $15 million deal with the Cincinnati Reds, the Pittsburgh Pirates have pivoted their interest to another player. Meanwhile, the Arizona Diamondbacks and Zac Gallen’s reunion seems more and more likely as we head closer to Spring Training.

Let’s get to both these updates.

Pirates Interested In Marcell Ozuna After Eugenio Suarez-Reds Deal

The Pittsburgh Pirates were one of the teams interested in Eugenio Suarez, but after the free agent signed with the Reds, they are looking at outfielder Marcell Ozuna. According to reporter Andrew Fillipponi, the Pirates are looking to sign Ozuna, who drove in 100+ runs in 2023 and 2024.

The Pirates, who ranked near the bottom of MLB in power, slugging, and OPS in 2025, want to add a right-handed power bat to their lineup. Suarez hit 49 home runs in 2025, making him an interesting player for the Pirates. Meanwhile, Ozuna hit 21 home runs with the Atlanta Braves last season. Previously, as well, the Pirates’ free agency movements aligned with similar thoughts, including interests for players like Kyle Schwarber, Pete Alonso, and Josh Naylor before they signed somewhere else.

Zac Gallen Expected To Reunite With Diamondbacks

Zac Gallen declined the qualifying offer from the Diamondbacks to become a free agent. Because of this, if any other team decides to sign Gallen in free agency, they will have to give up a compensatory draft pick to Arizona.

Initially, in the offseason, it was a fringe thought that Gallen could get back to the D-backs. But with Spring Training closer, that thought is only getting stronger.

According to MLB insider Jon Heyman, Gallen could re-sign with Arizona. Heyman also noted that the Baltimore Orioles, Chicago Cubs, San Diego Padres and LA Angels are other interested teams in the right-hander’s services.

Gallen is an elite starter, but last season was his worst. In 33 games pitched, he went 13-15 and posted an ERA of 4.83 and a WHIP of 1.26. The season before, he posted a 3.65 ERA and in 2023, the ERA was 3.47. He’s a workhorse and the Dbacks have a place for him should he decide to get back to the same franchise with whom he has been since 2019.
