Having joined the LA Dodgers in 2020, Mookie Betts quickly established himself as one of the team’s most important players. Boasting superb ability on both sides of the ball, Betts showed off another valuable aspect of his game in 2025: his versatility.
Having spent most of his time with the Dodgers as an outfielder, Mookie Betts made the switch to shortstop in 2025. Although fans and experts initially doubted the decision to make such a drastic change, the eight-time All-Star went on to impress in his new position.
Appearing on Saturday’s episode of “Inside the Locker Room,” Dodgers’ World Series Game 7 hero, Miguel Rojas, praised Mookie Betts’ versatility and work ethic.
“He’s a good student. He’s in love with the game. His work ethic is what takes him to the next level. I feel like whatever he wants to do, he can do, because he works on it really, really hard every single day. He found his groove this last year. You could see the difference between the couple of games he played at shortstop in ’23, then ’24 wasn’t that pretty, but in ’25 he was a Gold Glove caliber shortstop,” Rojas said (18:50).
“If another guy (Masyn Winn) hadn’t had an amazing season at short, I think Mookie had all the credit to get that Gold Glove, and he’s going to continue to do whatever he wants to. If he wants to move back to right field, he’s going to be a Gold Glover over there. It’s because of the work ethic. He comes to the field every day to get better,” he added.
Insider Explains Why Mookie Betts Is So Important For The LA Dodgers’ Success
During Tuesday’s episode of the “Pinstripe Post” podcast, insider Joel Sherman of the New York Post used Mookie Betts as an example to praise Cody Bellinger. In order to drive his point home, Sherman spoke about the factors that make Betts important for the Dodgers’ success.
“When I watch Mookie Betts play, I always say, every day in some way he helps you win a baseball game,” Sherman said (8:42).
“He’s a defensive player, he’s a base runner, he’s a hitter, there’s power, it’s about the five tools, it’s about versatility, it’s about playing in a big market without letting the noise bother you. It’s about being a good clubhouse citizen,” he added.
Having won back-to-back World Series titles in 2024 and 2025, Mookie Betts and the LA Dodgers will be fancying their chances of achieving a historic three-peat come 2026, especially now that they have signed arguably the offseason’s top free agent, Kyle Tucker.
