Red Sox legend and three-time World Series winner David Ortiz, affectionately known as “Big Papi,” repeatedly stole the spotlight with his witty remarks during the “MLB on Fox” broadcast for All-Star Weekend in Philadelphia on Monday.
While hosting Brandon Marsh and Bryce Harper in the makeshift studio, Ortiz made a playful jab at Yankees legend Derek Jeter, remarking that life isn’t fair: some people get gray hair, while others don’t get any (a jab at Jeter’s bald head). The quip left Jeter, Marsh and Harper in fits of laughter.

In another humorous moment from the broadcast, Alex Rodriguez, Ortiz and Jeter, along with host Kevin Burkhardt, engaged in a light-hearted chat with Mets All-Star Juan Soto and Brewers ace Jacob Misiorowski.
During the discussion, Ortiz was asked how he would handle a 105 mph fastball up and in the strike zone, given Misiorowski’s reputation for high-velocity pitches. Ortiz responded, “Up and in? … Gone.” His reply had everyone laughing once more.

What Did Justin Verlander Say When He Joined David Ortiz, Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez on Fox?
A 10-time All-Star, Justin Verlander was honored as the Legend pick by MLB commissioner Rob Manfred for the Midsummer Classic in Philadelphia. Now in the final year of his legendary career, Verlander was hosted on the Fox broadcast by Ortiz, Jeter, A-Rod and Burkhardt for a brief conversation.
During the show, the two-time Cy Young Award winner reminisced about the moments when he last pitched to Ortiz in August 2016 and when he faced Jeter in 2014, before the Yankees legend hung up his cleats.
“It’s such a cool thing to be here with you guys. I’m sure you guys remember (when you announced your retirement), it was a whirlwind. But to see where you guys were at and get to compete against you at the highest level, And, for me, to be on the other side of that now and be on the way out, I don’t know, it’s just really cool. I appreciate those moments,” Verlander said.
Jeter, Ortiz, and A-Rod, alongside Burkhardt, host Fox’s baseball broadcast during special moments in the season. Their most active time for commenting on games and hosting standout players is during the postseason.
