The Los Angeles Dodgers’ rotation could be in flux after the latest setback to Gavin Stone. Meanwhile, there’s an update on Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Trey Yesavage, who took the MLB world by storm following his major league debut in September.
Let’s check out these injury updates.
Gavin Stone Setback Puts Dodgers’ Opening Day Rotation In Flux
After losing last season due to a shoulder injury, a setback during Spring Training has derailed the Dodgers’ plans for Gavin Stone.
After tossing a scoreless inning in his Cactus League debut and subsequently a bullpen session last week, Stone experienced discomfort in his surgically repaired right shoulder. Before Monday’s game against the Rockies, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts informed reporters that Stone has been shut down currently and there’s no return timeline in place for now. This puts Stone’s potential return to the starting rotation in jeopardy.
Last Tuesday’s game was Stone’s first game action since being shut down on Aug. 31, 2024. He underwent shoulder surgery the following October and while he was expected to be fully healthy in the Spring Training, things have started on a rocky note.
“The recovering part of it has been the hardest, especially going through Spring Training,” Stone said after last week’s start. “The days that I’ve thrown [live batting practice], bullpens — today felt great, but the recovery part is still a grind.”
No Clear Timeline For Trey Yesavage
Trey Yesavage is slowly and gradually making steps in the Blue Jays’ Spring Training camp. Yesavage saw a tremendous increase in workload after he made the Blue Jays roster in September. He turned out to be a postseason ace, playing a big role in taking the Blue Jays to their first World Series appearance since the 1990s.
Given the high upside Yesavage brings, the Blue Jays are being cautious regarding his workload heading into the 2026 season.
According to MLB insider Ben Nicholas-Smith, Yesavage is scheduled to throw a live hitters session. But the Blue Jays have not shared a clear timeline on when he will make his Spring Training debut.
Last Tuesday, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet reported that Yesavage is still a week away from making his debut in the Grapefruit League.
The Blue Jays have made notable offseason additions in their rotation but it’s Yesavage who’d likely grab the most eyeballs.
