Chicago Cubs slugger Alex Bregman made his first big mark in Spring Training with a new team. Meanwhile, Boston Red Sox star Jarren Duran might be setting himself up for a bounce-back season.
Let’s learn more.
Alex Bregman Launches First Homer in Cubs Uniform
Facing the Chicago White Sox’s Anthony Kay in Monday’s game, third baseman Alex Bregman hit his first home run in the Cubs uniform. Bregman pulled the ball to left-center field to tie the game 1-1 in the first inning. The 369-foot homer came in a 8-1 loss for the Cubs.
This offseason, Bregman opted out of his three-year, $120 milliond deal with the Boston Red Sox to become a free agent. The Cubs signed him to a five-year, $175 million deal.
Bregman would soon leave Cubs spring training camp to join Team USA’s World Baseball Classic campaign. In his absence, the Cubs could field Matt Shaw at the hot corner.
Jarren Duran Stays Scorching With Third HR in 2 Days
Jarren Duran just launched his third home run in two days.
On Friday, he hit a 408-foot solo home run off Chris Sale in a game against the Atlanta Braves. The following day, he hit two homers against the Minnesota Twins, including one that traveled over 400 feet.
One of his two home runs on Saturday came in the fourth inning when the Red Sox slugger hit a 95 mph four-seam fastball over center field.
The home run is important as Duran has a massively underwhelming season following his All-Star selection in 2024. Last year, he batted .256, 16 home runs, 84 RBIs and 24 stolen bases with a .774. Moreover, he ran 13 triples, leading the franchise.
Duran was subjected to trade rumors this offseason, and he was most recently tied with the Houston Astros, who would send third baseman Isaac Paredes in return. However, the trade never happened because Houston wanted Wilyer Abreu instead.
With the way Spring Training is going for the Red Sox, their offense should be considered when talking about potential contenders of the 2026 season.
