New York Yankees star Jazz Chisholm Jr. may have exaggerated what his teammates think of him, according to MLB analyst Dan Clark.
Earlier this week, Chisholm Jr. said “basically everybody” on the Yankees told him he’s “the best in the world.” The comments came right after the Yankees star delivered an important go-ahead eighth-inning home run in the 2-1 victory against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
On Wednesday, Clark said he spoke to his contact within the organization, who challenged Chisholm Jr.’s claim:
“Today I spoke to a contact I have within the Yankees organization, regarding Jazz Chisholm’s comments on “basically everybody” calling him the best player in the world,” Clark wrote on X. “My contact spends a lot of time in the clubhouse and around players. He has never heard a teammate say that.”
In his comments, Chisholm first mentioned Yankees captain Aaron Judge when asked about who shared that “best player” sentiment in the clubhouse.
“Judge, well, basically everybody. I’m not going to lie,” Chisholm said. “Everybody always tells me that because they know I’m firm on confidence. And that’s the biggest thing that I feel like, that’s the biggest tool I got. And, you know, sometimes they see me dragging a little bit lately. So, you know, they just was like, ‘Bro, let’s not forget who you are. You’re the greatest in the world like you are.'”
Jazz Chisholm Jr.’s Focus Is Not On Free Agency But Yankees Dream
Jazz Chisholm Jr. will turn free agent this fall. But before that, he wants to win a World Series with the Yankees.
Six months ago, Chisholm Jr. floated a rough figure on what his next Yankees contract could look like, somewhere in the ballpark of eight-to-10 years worth north of $300 million.
When asked about the same this week, his tone changed.
In an interview with Boardroom, Chisholm Jr.’s said priorities have shifted to winning a World Series in the Bronx.
“I’m going to be real with you. I don’t even know, bro. I’ve never been in that position to even…And I haven’t been in it yet,” Chisholm said. “So to be there to tell you, dang, I know what I’m looking for in free agency. Honestly, right now, all I’m trying to do is go win that World Series.”
Chisholm Jr. made it clear that he loves New York and if there is an agreement, staying back would be considered.
“And then after that, I’ll probably think about it. But right now, it’s just like I love New York, especially that I’m playing here right now. I would never want to leave. You know what I mean?” Chisholm said. “So to say that I’m out here looking to go to another team or looking for a new contract in a different way, it’s not really [like that].”
There are still months to go before the decision on Chisholm Jr. will need to be made by the Yankees.
