Milwaukee Brewers ace Jacob Misiorowski returned to the mound on Monday after a 13-day layoff caused by arm fatigue. As a result, the Brewers took a cautious approach and limited him to just 4.0 innings (65 pitches). The right-hander allowed one unearned run, four hits, and one walk while striking out six sluggers.
After the game, the 24-year-old felt like he “didn’t have his legs underneath him.” This prompted Mark DeRosa to comment on why Misiorowski should not focus on throwing triple-digit fastballs. In his latest appearance on MLB Network, DeRosa pointed out that Misiorowski will “blow out” if he doesn’t learn to stay healthy while doing what he does on the mound.
“Prove to me that these guys can stay healthy doing it this way. Yeah. I just don’t get it,” DeRosa said. “The track record says these guys all blow out. So, do you really think this is making a difference? If anything, I think we were discussing this last night over the phone. Instead of pitching at 101-102, can you learn how to pitch at 98 and 99? And when you need 102 or 103, go get it. Maybe that’ll keep you healthier. I don’t know.”
DeRosa used the example of Gerrit Cole requiring Tommy John surgery last year after performing in the 2024 World Series. The more the velocity, the riskier it gets to stay healthy, per DeRosa.

DeRosa’s comments follow Misiorowski’s admission last month that he wants to touch 106 mph and even 108 mph.
“I definitely think it’s possible. Science says you can hit 108,” he said.
Misiorowski said he slipped on the pitch he threw 105.5 mph tonight. Asked if 106 is possible: “I definitely think its possible. Science says you can hit 108.

Brewers’ Jacob Misiorowski To Get Extra Rest Before Sunday Showdown
The Brewers are in no hurry to bring their Cy Young candidate back to the mound this week. After pitching on Monday, the Brewers are expected to give Jacob Misiorowski an extra six days’ rest before his next outing.
Brewers manager Pat Murphy has prioritized the long-term health of Misiorowski over pushing the right-hander too hard. It’s important to note that last year, the 24-year-old pitched a career-high of 141.1 innings pitched. He’s already at 115 innings this season.
The Brewers will ask Brandon Sproat to take the mound on Tuesday, Logan Henderson on Wednesday, Shane Drohan on Friday, and Robert Gasser on Saturday before Sproat goes again on Sunday.
