Los Angeles Dodgers utility player Kike Hernandez has decided to skip the team’s White House visit this year to celebrate the 2025 World Series victory. The visit to meet U.S. President Donald Trump is on July 23.
Hernandez shared a piece of hate mail on his Instagram stories on Monday. The mail apparently came from someone named Larry Weidick from Drums, Pennsylvania.
“Mr. Hernandez, after hearing about the horrible experience during your last visit to the White House and your excuse for your absence this year, it seems clear that you are just a disrespectful, spoiled, pampered, entitled little brat,” the mail read. “Remember, you work for an organization that promotes a group (The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence) that disparages and denigrates the entire Catholic religion.”
Hernandez posted a photo of it on social media with a befitting reply:
“SO to Larry for the nice letter! Next time, at least make it handwritten, you nice sir!”
Hernandez visited the White House last year to celebrate the 2024 World Series victory. However, this year, he is joining Mookie Betts among notable snubs from this year’s White House visit.
Kike Hernandez Reveals Why He Is Skipping White House Visit
There has been intense speculation about why Kike Hernandez avoided the White House visit, given that the Dodgers star had called out the Trump administration over the ICE raids.
Officially, the utility man is scheduled to be on a minor league rehab assignment while recovering from a strained left oblique.
“It’s going to be hard to be in two cities at the same time,” Hernández said. “If I was active, I probably wouldn’t have gone anyways. … I’d rather take a day off than do team activities,” he said.
Hernández’s Dodgers teammate Mookie Betts will also skip the visit as he wants to be with his family, despite knowing he will be criticized for it. Both of them attended last year, with Betts saying that he wanted to be with his teammates.
Meanwhile, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts has confirmed that he will attend the visit and also expects many other Dodgers stars to join him.
