“Children Will Always Be Off Limits”: Analyst Doesn’t Hold Back On Wrestling Coach Amid Marcus Freeman Controversy

Notre Dame Fighting Irish head coach Marcus Freeman recently got involved in a controversy. The alleged incident occurred on January 3 at Mishawaka High School in Indiana, and it involves Freeman and New Prairie High School wrestling coach.

As per reports, Marcus’s son, Vinny Freeman, “was verbally accosted” by the local wrestling coach during and after his match. Marcus and his wife, Joanna Freeman, intervened to remove their son from the situation.

The New Prairie High School wrestling assistant coach, Chris Fleeger, is alleging battery and has filed a police complaint against the Notre Dame head coach. Early investigation has been completed by Mishawaka police, and a report has been handed over to the prosecutor’s office.

The alleged altercation happened after Vinny lost the match and was being escorted off the mat by his father and his head coach, Brad Harper. Fleeger allegedly started exchanging words with the group, which continued till they reached the hallway.

Fleeger is alleging that Marcus made physical contact, which is why he’s pressing charges. People are free to have their own opinion on the issue, but as per Blake Ruffino of The Ruffino & Joe Show, if Marcus did anything to protect his son, his action is justified.

“You don’t go after another man’s family. You don’t go after another man’s child,” Ruffino said. “Children will always be off limits.”

Ruffino stated that the members of the national media who are criticizing Marcus for the alleged incident don’t know what it means to be a father, a parent, and the protective nature that comes with it. Ruffino added that the number one priority for every father is the protection of their child, and in that sense, Marcus didn’t do anything wrong.

Notre Dame Issued a Statement in Marcus Freeman’s Support

The details of the issue are still being sorted out. It’s unclear exactly what took place, and until an official report comes out, people are going to debate who was right and who was wrong in the alleged incident.

Notre Dame, however, is showing full support to its head coach. The school released a statement, claiming that there’s no evidence of any wrongdoing on Freeman’s part.

“Vinny Freeman, head coach Marcus Freeman’s son, was verbally accosted during and after his wrestling match by a local wrestling coach. Marcus and Joanna Freeman intervened and removed Vinny from the situation. At no point did Coach Freeman physically engage with anyone. We believe that the police report, which includes video evidence, fully exonerates Coach Freeman and makes clear these accusations are totally unfounded,” Notre Dame said in the statement.

With the issue now gaining nationwide attention, more details are going to come out soon.
