Women’s March Madness Upset Predictions: Top 5 Teams That Will Fall Short Of Expectations ft. No. 3 Louisville vs. No. 6 Alabama

Unlike the Men’s edition of March Madness, the Women’s edition did not have as many upsets, as Syracuse and Virginia were the only lower-seeded teams that defeated a higher-seeded one. However, Syracuse could barely even be called an upset as they were the No. 9 seed and they defeated the No. 8 seed Iowa State. This time, however, teams may be a lot closer in rankings than in previous years, so upsets from lower seeds are a lot more likely.

Still, higher-seeded teams are considered the favorites coming into their respective matchups, but can the underdogs pull out that scrappy victory and move on to the Sweet Sixteen round?

5 Possible Women’s March Madness Upsets

No. 3 Louisville vs. No. 6 Alabama

While Bama may be known more for being a football school, they have stepped up their basketball game as of late, including women’s basketball. This is reflected in the Crimson Tide doing well this season. J

Jessica Timmons, Essence Cody and Diana Collins each had double-digit performances for Bama against Rhode Island in the first round and are looking very promising against Louisville, led by guard Tajianna Roberts, who dropped 12 points against UVM in the first round.

No. 3 Ohio State vs. No. 6 Notre Dame

Another No. 3 vs. No. 6 matchup, Ohio State is the higher-seeded team here, but Notre Dame is just red-hot. This matchup is considered to be a lot closer than Louisville vs. Alabama, so the Fighting Irish are likelier to pull off the upset here, and with superstar Hannah Hidalgo leading the way, that is very much possible.

No. 4 Minnesota vs. No. 5 Ole Miss

This one is barely an upset, but an upset nonetheless, as Ole Miss has proven that they could hang with the best with wins over Vanderbilt and Gonzaga. They have shown that they could take down higher-ranked teams, and the Golden Gophers might not be an exception.

No. 7 Illinois vs. No. 2 Vanderbilt

This one should be a long shot, but No. 2 Vanderbilt has been beaten by lower-ranked teams before, and the Fighting Illini have shown how hungry they are down the stretch.

No. 2 Iowa vs. No. 10 Virginia

This is probably the longest shot here, but No. 10 Virginia has been the most surprising team so far in the women’s bracket of March Madness, as they came from the First Four and then defeated No. 7 Georgia to set up a date with Iowa.

The Hawkeyes are the heavy favorites here, but Virginia is on a historic run right now, and they might even pull off the upset, odds be damned.
