South Carolina vs TCU Game Summary
Olivia Miles and the TCU Horned Frogs started the game strong off the tip, as they went on a 6-0 run. This eventually led to a 12-4 score in favor of the Horned Frogs, as the South Carolina Gamecocks were scrambling to adjust. With this, the Gamecocks’ poise proved to be true, as they went on a run of their own to knot the game up at 14-all. A last-second shot by South Carolina’s Joyce Edwards gave her team a two-point lead, 16-14.
With Edwards and company stealing the advantage from the Horned Frogs in the last seconds of the first quarter, the latter quickly got the lead back in the opening minutes of the second period, 19-18. Both teams then went back and forth for the lead before the Gamecocks pulled away again by five points. By the end of the first half, the South Carolina-based program was leading by eight points, 35-27.
Coach Mark Campbell’s team made the game more competitive than it already was in the second half, as they got to within five points on several instances in the third quarter. But the Gamecocks continued to display composure and confidence, as they kept stretching the lead. By the time the third period’s buzzer sounded, TCU was down 41-49.
As the fourth quarter ensued, a 14-point barrage by South Carolina put the nail in the coffin. TCU could not find an answer to how coach Dawn Staley‘s squad started the layover frame, with their first score coming midway through the period. Any chance of a TCU comeback was thwarted by the Gamecocks, as they eventually won by a staggering 26 points, 78-52.
