Nika Muhl, Swin Cash, Sarah Strong’s Mother And More React As 7x NCAA Champ Says Final Goodbye to Geno Auriemma’s UConn

UConn Huskies assistant coach Jamelle Elliot is one of the most recognizable faces of coach Geno Auriemma’s coaching staff. While Auriemma leads the program, Elliot has stayed loyal for decades now as a reliable member of the staff. Elliot was an assistant coach for the Huskies from 1998 to 2009 before briefly pursuing a head coaching job with the Cincinnati Bearcats. She returned to UConn in 2020 and has stayed ever since.

On Tuesday, June 16, though, Elliot officially announced through a lengthy post on her Instagram account that she is stepping away from the Huskies. Elliot’s website confirms the news and mentions that the tenured tactician is leaving to pursue more executive roles elsewhere. Nevertheless, it seems as though Elliot and the UConn program are parting ways in high spirits.

With Elliot announcing she is leaving, several past and present members of the Huskies family, such as former guard Nika Muhl, former forward Swin Cash, and the mother of current star Sarah Strong, Allison Feaster, and others, dropped their reactions on her post.

    “❤️,” Muhl dropped.

Elliot’s departure from the Huskies comes in the midst of the offseason, where coach Auriemma and company have been retooling their roster. While UConn has a plethora of mainstays, they recently let go of current Dallas Wings rookie Azzi Fudd due to graduation. The Huskies are seemingly out for vengeance in the 2026-27 season after they were eliminated in the 2026 NCAA Final Four.

Jamelle Elliot is leaving with nothing but gratitude for the UConn Huskies program

Jamelle Elliot began her lengthy farewell message to the UConn Huskies by expressing her gratitude for the opportunity. Elliot has been a part of the Connecticut-based program since way back in 1992, when she was about to enter college basketball as a player. After she graduated in 1996, Elliot immediately joined the coaching staff just two years later.

“Over thirty years ago, I arrived at UConn as a student-athlete. I leave with a heart full of gratitude. Thank you to Coach Auriemma, the staff, and especially the remarkable young women I have had the privilege to learn from, coach, and support throughout this journey,” Elliot wrote.
