    Massachusetts Governor Sends Heartwarming Message to Dawn Staley Amid Massive Off-Court Accomplishment

    Dawn Staley is among the biggest names in the women’s basketball world, and has been for a long time. She first made a reputation for herself as a player and now she is achieving milestone after milestone in her career as the South Carolina head coach.

    Staley has had a variety of achievements as a head coach so far in her career, with three NCAA national championship under her belt along with many SEC championships.

    Now that the NCAA world is enjoying the offseason, Staley marked another achievement off her list by securing her honorary degree.

    Massachusetts Governor Maura Healy penned a heartfelt message for Staley, congratulating her on unlocking the milestone:

    “Congratulations to @dawnstaley on receiving an honorary degree from @smithcollege — the birthplace of women’s basketball 🏀 Coach Staley has changed the game for generations of athletes and leaders. She says know your truth, follow your truth, and believe in yourself especially when others don’t. What a full-circle moment for one of sport’s all-time greats. Great to have Dawn in Massachusetts today!” Healy wrote.

    Geno Auriemma’s Apology to Dawn Staley After Infamous Brawl

    Geno Auriemma faced one of the most embarrassing moments of his life when UConn faced a huge Final Four defeat in the 2025-26 season.

    Auriemma lost his cool with Staley after the game. He charged at her, calling her out for not shaking his hand, after which the South Carolina head coach said she’ll beat his a*s.

    Shortly after the incident, Auriemma addressed the situation and said he talked to Staley personally and that he apologized to her.

    “I’ve lost more games in the Final Four than any coach in history. But Friday I lost something more important. I lost myself.” Auriemma said. 

    Auriemma further said he has nothing but respect and admiration for the game and the coaches.
