Notre Dame HC Marcus Freeman Makes Feelings Very Clear on Hannah Hidalgo Amid Disappointing 20-9 Season

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish women’s basketball team did not end its season within the AP Top 25, but it did defeat the No. 10 Louisville Cardinals in an upset. Superstar Hannah Hidalgo led the team with a monster performance, proving that she is still one of the top power forwards in college women’s basketball despite ending on a 20-9 record.

Football head coach Marcus Freeman appeared in a hype video for Notre Dame women’s basketball, and he was all praises for the dominant power forward.

“Dog, she’s a dog! And that’s a term of endearment for the ferocity she plays with, the intensity, the competitiveness,” Marcus Freeman says of Hannah Hidalgo. “She’s a complete basketball player. And I think that’s what makes her the best all-around player in the country.”

She proved Freeman’s point during that season-ender against Louisville, as Hannah Hidalgo concluded her season with a double-double performance. She scored 30 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists and five steals during the night, carrying the Fighting Irish to a big win over the Cardinals. The final score was 65-62.

The Fighting Irish ended their season on a five-game winning streak, with that win over No. 10 Louisville to cap off the season being the biggest one. Even though Hannah Hidalgo and her team have finished their season strong, they must now compete in the ACC Championship Tournament to see which team automatically heads to the NCAA National Championship Tournament and which teams will have to be selected.

Can Hannah Hidalgo and Notre Dame Get To March Madness?

After the ACC Championship Tournament, should Hannah Hidalgo and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish get eliminated, could they still make it to the tournament? The NCAA released the projections ahead of the final week of play, and given that the team has won all their games this week, it is looking good.

The Fighting Irish are projected to be the No. 8 seed heading to Region 3 in Fort Worth, Texas. Their projected opponents will be No. 9 seed Villanova, which means that they will have a lower seed and therefore a tough field heading into March Madness.
