Geno Auriemma Shows His Italian Heritage With Sweet Gesture in the Press Conference

Geno Auriemma has been at UConn for over 40 years now. He has lived in America almost all his life. However, every now and then, Auriemma remembers the life he had before becoming one of the greatest basketball coaches in the history of the sport.

Auriemma comes from a humble Italian family. He was born in Montella, a small town in Italy. He was raised in Norristown, Pennsylvania. His family was hardworking and honest in their work. He learned a great deal from his family and followed those values throughout his career. The 71-year-old has never forgotten about his roots and where he comes from.

Everybody loves Geno Auriemma. However, there will be times when he will drop a blunt take on his players and be straight with them. Many players admit to hating him for it, but they understand how it benefits them. Other than that, Geno is surely a fun-loving guy with a great sense of humor. There was another recent instance when he showed his funny side and also his Italian heritage.

After UConn’s 85-47 win against Notre Dame, Geno Auriemma nonchalantly brought a whole pizza to the press conference. He showed it to the room filled with reporters and placed the box to the side while enjoying his bite. He said he had brought the pizza for everyone there and that there was more if anyone was hungry.

Geno Auriemma’s UConn Dismantles Notre Dame

The UConn Huskies are on a brilliant run at the moment. They are unbeaten, with 19 wins in a row. They are one of the best teams out there and might make NCAA history by winning back-to-back championships.

Their last game proved that they are not messing around. UConn absolutely obliterated Notre Dame. The game ended 85-47. Azzi Fudd, Sarah Strong, Serah Williams, KK Arnold, and Ashlynn Shade all ended the game in double-digit points. Hannah Hidalgo led the scoreboard for Notre Dame with 16 points. However, it was clearly not enough.
