“You Are Turning into Dan Hurley”: Fans Left Unimpressed as Geno Auriemma Issues Apology to South Carolina’s “Staff” After Brawl with Dawn Staley

Geno Auriemma has been leading the UConn Huskies as their head coach for 41 years, building one of the most magical legacies during his tenure with the program.

However, that legacy started getting questioned after Auriemma lost his cool on Dawn Staley and aggressively talked to her after losing in the Final Four showdown against South Carolina.

Auriemma’s behavior didn’t sit well with most people and was heavily criticised by the fans.

On Saturday night, Auriemma issued an apology from UConn’s X account, which also caught the public’s attention as he didn’t mention Dawn Staley’s name at all and wrote that he has had a great relationship with the South Carolina “staff.”

“No F’ing Way! Pick up the phone and call Staley to apologize!!! Make sure the phone call is on speaker phone and recorded. it’s really the only way.” one fan reacted.

”PR stunt Uncalled for He should have been a coach and consoled his players Especially the best one who didn’t have her best game Instead his fragile ego took over.” Another fan wrote.

“Not exactly an apology. He knows “the staff’s” name. DAWN
Geno showed his ass last night and showed the whole world he has the emotional intelligence of a nine year old boy. This statement doesn’t do anything to contradict that.” another fan pointed out.

“What a joke of an Unsincere apology. Geno, let’s just go with the facts…You are an ASS and a cry baby! Oh, and a liar.” another fan shared their thoughts.

“time to retire, you are turning into Dan Hurley.“ another fan added.

”Not mentioning Dawn’s name is kind of sus.” another fan highlighted.

Andraya Carter Expresses Frustration with Geno Auriemma’s Behavior After Dawn Staley Fight

ESPN analyst Andraya Carter has been a major supporter of Geno Auriemma’s UConn this season and boldly placed her bet on the Huskies to win it all in the 2025-26 season.

However, after Auriemma’s behavior towards Dawn Staley, even Andraya Carter expressed her thoughts on the UConn head coach’s actions after the Final Four loss:

“It was all handled so poorly on Geno’s part,” Carter said. “Like, actually shockingly so. Because you never really see Geno act like that.”

Carter further added that Auriemma looked so bad that it almost looked intentional, because if he didn’t do that, people would be talking about how the South Carolina players outplayed them.
