LSU Tigers head coach Kim Mulkey is known for her bold, theatrical gameday fashion. She wears vibrant colors, feathers, themed jackets, and her wardrobe boasts a lot of glittery jackets that have made headlines.
Mulkey has gone viral several times with her pink feather jacket and the gold blazer, among other outfits. Her eye-catching fashion has been a part of internet discussions for a while, and Flau’jae Johnson recently gave fans a sneak peek into her wardrobe.
In a video posted by ESPN Originals on Instagram, Johnson can be seen going through Mulkey’s wardrobe. Looking at Mulkey’s alligator skin jacket, Johnson said, “Nobody is doing it like that.” She was impressed by her coach’s wardrobe.
“It’s more sparkly than my closet will ever be, but it gets wilder and wilder at times,” Johnson said.
Johnson believes that Mulkey’s fashion is more than just her way of self-expression. She said that by wearing those vibrant colors and patterns, she helps bring more attention to the program, and they are able to sell more tickets.
“At the end of the day, I know she do it for us because that puts butts in the seats,” she said. “Old people, they love it. They come to the game wearing sparkly jackets and stuff like that. So, it’s like she’s a part of the show, and she knows that.”
Johnson also pulled out Mulkey’s championship jacket from 2023. She wore a distinctive gold and pink, sequined tiger-striped pantsuit. She remembered hugging Coach Mulkey and celebrating the win with her.
The LSU star also tried to put the jacket on, but that wasn’t meant to be put on an athlete’s shoulder. In Johnson’s overall assessment of Mulkey’s wardrobe, she believes coach carries herself really well. In her words, “Coach got drip.”
Kim Mulkey on the Challenge Ahead for LSU
Mulkey’s Tigers are 29-5 overall this season. They have had back-to-back blowout wins in the NCAA Tournament. In the first round, they defeated the Jacksonville Dolphins 116-58 and the Texas Tech Lady Raiders 101-47 in the second round.
The Tigers will play the Duke Blue Devils in the Sweet 16 round this week. Mulkey knows that the tournament is only going to get tougher from here.
“There’s a lot of good teams left. We did play well these two games, but the deeper you go in the tournament, the tougher it gets,” she said. “My moment right now is to make sure everybody in Baton Rouge and in this state understands, and at LSU, don’t take this stuff for granted.”
Mulkey is focused on winning the tournament for now, and she’s not willing to settle for anything but a title.
