No, the South Carolina Gamecocks head coach, Dawn Staley, is not married. She has always kept her personal life private.
However, there was a tweet (May, 8, 2018) on X from Staley, which raised eyebrows. She dedicated the post to her longtime associate head coach, Lisa Boyer.
“Boyer!!” Staley wrote. “We are that old married couple who started young and will grow old together. You put the ride and die in the RIDE and DIE! Proud of you Boyer. Thanks for sacrificing your career to help to me serve our teams, program, university and state. What a ride?!”
Soon, there were chatters on the internet about Staley and Boyer’s relationship. However, Staley never clarified. The tweet was in response to Boyer’s own message celebrating their decade-long partnership
“What Dawnnie?!?!” she wrote on May 8, 2018. “10 years!!! Went by in a blink. Laughs, tears, joys, disappointments, heartaches, and victories, BUT always shoulder to shoulder. Been a ton of fun so let’s get this next 10.”
Notably, Boyer and Staley have worked together at South Carolina since 2008. Even in her 2025 memoir, “Uncommon Favor,” Staley has not mentioned her relationship status. Instead, she focused on her coaching career, her early life in Philadelphia, and the people who contributed to her basketball career.
Dawn Staley is currently seeking her fourth title in the upcoming championship game against UCLA on Sunday. In the Final Four on Friday, her squad ended UConn’s 54-game winning streak to advance to the final.
Dawn Staley Shares Special Bond with Her Dog Champ
Dawn Staley’s most famous companion is her beloved Havanese dog named Champ, a constant fixture in Staley’s life and a bit of a celebrity in the South Carolina basketball community.
He is named “Champ” in honor of South Carolina’s 2017 National Championship win. Staley famously promised herself she would get a dog if the team won the title that year.
After South Carolina won their second title in 2022 on April 3, Staley was jokingly if she would get a second dog to match the second trophy.
“I’ve got a name picked out already,” she said. “Whether or not Champ agrees on wanting a sibling, that’s a different story. It’s been four years, and he doesn’t get along with other dogs.”
Staley added that she would call her second dog, “Natty.”
“Just imagine, ‘Natty, Champ, get over here,’ “ she said. “Sounds good, right?”
As of 2026, Champ is about nine years old (born around 2017).
