The Fever opened the 2026 WNBA season on Saturday, losing 107-104 against the Dallas Wings. Caitlin Clark had a rough shooting night in the loss, finishing with 20 points, five rebounds and seven assists, shooting 7-for-18, including 2-for-9 from 3-point range.

Indiana was led by Kelsey Mitchell, who recorded 30 points, three rebounds and four assists, shooting 11-for-22. Sophie Cunningham played 26 minutes in the loss, recording three points, four rebounds and three assists.

Clark’s appearance next to Morgan Wallen came hours after the Fever dropped their season opener against the Wings, leading to criticism for the star guard. Cunningham was also in attendance at Wallen’s concert.

Clark and Co. will return to action on Wednesday, taking on the Los Angeles Sparks at the Crypto.com Arena.

Morgan Wallen is no stranger to controversy and attracted significant criticism after breaking COVID masking protocols in 2020.

He was also caught on camera in 2021, shouting a racial slur. He was arrested in 2024 for throwing a chair at a bar and was also criticized for walking off the Saturday Night Live set in 2025.

Caitlin Clark explains early exit as Sophie Cunningham, Fever fall to Dallas Wings

Caitlin Clark left Saturday’s game against the Dallas Wings multiple times, sparking concern among the Indiana Fever fanbase. Speaking after the close loss, Clark explained the reason behind her absence.

“Just getting my back adjusted. Gets out of line pretty quickly. Other than that, I feel great,” Clark said postgame.

Coach Stephanie White also addressed Clark’s early exit while speaking to reporters.

“It’s part of maintaining the body. As she has adjusted her body and focused on – look, when we’re all really young, we don’t learn proper mechanics, and it doesn’t get exposed until something happens,” White said.

Despite dealing with back issues, Clark logged 31 minutes in Saturday’s loss and is expected to be available for Wednesday’s matchup against the Sparks.
