“This Game Genuinely Unleased Her Demon”: Caitlin Clark Fans Pumped After Fever Star’s Altercation with Alyssa Thomas, DeWanna Bonner

At a time when the Indiana Fever are still searching for consistency, the pressure on Caitlin Clark to perform at an exceptional level is mounting even more. On Monday, fans witnessed a scene which appears to confirm that Clark has finally turned on the switch.

Towards the end of a comeback win over the Phoenix Mercury, Clark and Alyssa Thomas went after a loose ball. Thomas was initially whistled for an offensive foul, supposedly for swinging an elbow at Clark. The call was later overturned, and CC ended up being the one assessed with a foul. Frustrated with the call, Clark would sarcastically applaud Thomas after the Mercury forward missed both free throws.

In the eyes of some fans, Clark’s display of competitive fire is a great sign for her 2026 season.

Meanwhile, other fans were more concerned with the fact that Clark got called for a technical foul as she clapped for Thomas’ misses. Some Fever supporters also vented their ire on DeWanna Bonner, who got entangled with CC during one heated sequence.

Bonner, who briefly played with Clark last season, jostled with the Fever star as the Mercury looked to score early in the fourth quarter. In the ensuing altercation, Clark had words for Bonner, who promptly walked away.

After all of the physicality in the fourth quarter, the Fever hung on to win 86-77. It certainly wasn’t an easy win, as the battle with the Mercury took its physical and emotional toll on Clark and her teammates.

In the post-game media session, a clearly frustrated Clark name-checked referee Gerda Gatling as she reacted to the technical foul for a seemingly harmless act.

“We should all just go on the calendar now and pick a game that I’m going to be suspended for if I’m going to get technicals for clapping. I asked Gerda, and she said I got a technical for clapping.”

Clark added that, in her view, the technical foul she received for clapping is certainly worthy of review on the part of the league office.
