Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark is taking ownership of the leader role for her team in the 2026 WNBA season. After playing just 13 games last year due to a nagging groin injury, Clark has now stabilized her body to play freely this season. So far, Clark has played 15 games already, and is on pace for a healthy campaign. On Monday, June 22, Clark and the Fever were tasked with facing the Phoenix Mercury.
Unfortunately for the Indiana franchise, Clark and company started off really slow as the Mercury limited the Fever to just six points in the first quarter. However, Indiana did bounce back and uncorked a 35-point second quarter to tie the game up at the half, 41-all. During her in-game halftime interview, Clark said that her team’s run stemmed from a harsh reality check.
“ Yeah, just fight. First quarter was embarrassing. Got to be able to space the floor, make open shots, and get downhill. I thought we did a lot better job getting our feet in the paint. That’s what allowed us to get better looks, and then we also got to the free throw line, which helped us as well,” Clark said. (0:05)
From here, coach Stephanie White’s Fever team did not look back. They scored 30 points in the third quarter and held the Mercury to just 11 points. Despite a late surge by Phoenix, Indiana held on to win by nine points, 86-77. Clark finished the game with a game-high 24 points, three rebounds, and nine assists in 29 minutes of action.
Caitlin Clark detailed that Indiana Fever offense is ignited on transition play
“ Made a few shots in the beginning, and then, we got stops on defense. That allowed us to play a lot in transition, and that’s what we’re gonna need to do the second half,” Clark shared. (0:20)
