Since coming into the league three years ago, Caitlin Clark has broken several rookie as well as all-time WNBA records. Most recently, the Indiana star became the first player ever in WNBA and NBA history to score 45 points and ten assists in a stellar performance against the Storm.
While she hasn’t had any championship success yet, Clark has already entered the debate over becoming the face of the WNBA, purely based on her sharpshooting game and the massive amount of followers she has drawn towards the league.
Emmanuel Acho had no problems crowning the former Iowa star as the face of the WNBA, after Jemele Hill had previously claimed that it should be no one other than A’ja Wilson. In an appearance on his ‘Speakeasy’ podcast on Monday, Acho said:
“Clark is absolutely unequivocally the face of the WNBA. She is by no stretch of the imagination the best player. But uniquely to the W, Caitlin Clark has allowed there to be an insurgence of money, of popularity, of television views. She has helped escalate this league in a manner in which no other individual, I would suggest, has helped escalate a league. Not to the same level.” (Timestamp 1:19:00)
Wilson currently is the odds-on favorite to win the 2026 WNBA MVP award with Paige Bueckers in second place, while Clark is a longshot to grab her first MVP honors with +1300 odds.
A’ja Wilson Leads Aces To Blowout Win Over Toronto
A’ja Wilson strengthened her case for the MVP award with another 26-point performance against Sandy Brondello’s Tempo in a 109-83 win in their penultimate matchup before the All-Star break.
Wilson shot 11-14 from the field, including a perfect 3-3 from distance, with six rebounds, four assists, and four blocks. Jackie Young and NaLyssa Smith contributed 24 and 18 points, respectively.
Head coach Becky Hammon also took the chance to extend her support for Brondello, amid the backlash against the Toronto head coach after an ‘inappropriate comment’ against Angel Reese last week.
“I just gave her a big hug when I saw her. I know that’s not where her heart is. I know her as a very, very high quality person, someone that’s filled with a lot of love for everyone. I know she’s probably been pretty tore up and crushed about the whole situation. She’ll bounce back, I know she’s resilient. It’s unfortunate, everything that’s kind of going around the league. I’d like to get back to sports uniting people,” Hammon said.
The Aces will face the Washington Mystics on Wednesday at the CareFirst Arena in Washington.
