Caitlin Clark fans reacted to new information regarding her 2024 Rookie of the Year win. Clark received news of her winning the award by a phone call from league commissioner Cathy Engelbert.
Writing in her new book “On Her Game: Caitlin Clark and the Revolution in Women’s Sports,” Christine Brennan shared how attempts at putting on a show to celebrate her ROY win were declined by Clark and her team.
“We offered to come to Indy after the team season had finished and do a press conference and/or have [NBA Entertainment] do a sit-down with CC,” Howard texted to Brennan as per her new book. “But both the team and her agent declined the offer … It was difficult to do it while the team was in Connecticut, but we offered to do something in Indianapolis afterwards, and we were turned down.
The next year, Paige Bueckers received her Rookie of the Year award on “The Jennifer Hudson Show,” sparking backlash among some fans who interpreted it as a double standard in the league’s treatment of Clark.
Fans reacted to the new information shared in Brennan’s book on social media, with some fans claiming that Clark was “scared to receive praise.” Here are the most noteworthy reactions on X:
“Wow. This is so f***ed up that the girl was actually scared to receive praise because of all the resentment and hate she received from all over,” one fan said.
“Prob wise…. knowing how she’s been treated by many in the media and in the league,” another fan said.
“Kind of bad timing. Doing individual things before a playoff push is a distraction… afterwards it’s too late,” one fan wrote.
“I believe it! It’s like hating the one person that brought massive attention to the league,” another fan wrote.
“She didn’t want to receive more attention cos theyre gonna hate her more. It’s obvious our girl is humble, unlike some,” a fan commented.
