Stephen Curry has reacted to Azzi Fudd’s WNBA preseason game with the Dallas Wings against the Las Vegas Aces on May 3rd. In particular, the NBA star found Fudd’s decision to introduce herself to their rivals by shaking their hands ahead of the start of the game.

The game ended with a victory for the Dallas Wings, 101-84, over the Fever. Fudd played for 21 minutes, recording 12 points and one assist.

As a guest in a recent episode of the “Fudd Around and Find Out” podcast, Stephen Curry talked with the Wings rookie about her decision to introduce herself formally to her rivals. He found it extremely endearing, it seems:

“I saw that video of you during that jump ball situation,” said Curry to Azzi Fudd

    To which Azzi Fudd replied:

“I don’t know these people yet… Do I have to go say hi? Do I dap you up?” said a confused Fudd

Stephen Curry went on to say that he found this kind of situation extremely funny because they show the confusion of newcomers to the professional leagues. He said that nobody prepares you for this kind of situation, and you just kind of have to soldier on.

Fudd has since made her regular-season debut for Dallas, playing in two games so far, against the Indiana Fever first, on May 9th, and against the Minnesota Lynx, on May 14th. The first game was a 107-104 victory, while the second ended in defeat, 90-86. She’s currently averaging 5.5 points, 1 rebound, and 1 steal per game.

Azzi Fudd sets record for lowest-scoring debut for a top WNBA Draft pick

Fudd has the dubious honor of having the lowest scoring debut for a first overall pick in the WNBA Draft. This is her official debut, against the Indiana Fever on May 9th during the Dallas Wings’ season opener. That day, Fudd recorded three points in 18 minutes of play in the 107-104 Wings victory over the Fever.

However, Dallas’s coach José Fernández didn’t think much of it, telling the press afterwards that he wanted Fudd to:

“Keep doing what she’s doing, it’s her first year in the league. We got five really talented backcourt players.”

The Dallas Wings play against the Atlanta Dream next Friday, going on the road at the Gateway Center Arena at College Park in Atlanta, Georgia, at 7:30 pm ET. Dallas currently has a record of 1-2.
