Fans Make Compelling MVP Case for Paige Bueckers After Fifth Straight 20-Point Game

The MVP case for Paige Bueckers is starting to stack up as she continues to put together an incredible second season in the WNBA. While the award is given to the league’s most valuable player, Bueckers has unquestionably been one of the biggest reasons behind the Dallas Wings’ success this year.

The talented guard recorded her fifth straight 20-point game in the Wings’ 89-76 win over the Toronto Tempo on Sunday. She finished with 22 points, seven assists and three rebounds while adding a few highlight-reel-worthy plays along the way.

With another 20-point performance, Bueckers now owns the longest active 20-point streak in the WNBA this season. Even more impressive, she’s just the second player in the last five seasons to record at least five straight 20-point games while shooting 50% or better from the field. A’ja Wilson is the only other player to accomplish the feat, doing it six times during that span. This marks Bueckers’ first such streak.

With Bueckers continuing her remarkable run, fans quickly made the case for her to be included in the MVP conversation. Here are some of their reactions.

If anything, Bueckers’ biggest competition should be A’ja Wilson, Kelsey Plum, and Olivia Miles, who are doing frankly ridiculous things for their teams this season. However, it’s not a landslide, and there are still a few crucial months left in the season. But Bueckers doesn’t look like she’s slowing down anytime soon. Averaging 20.2 points and 6.0 assists per game, it’s hard not to see Bueckers as the WNBA’s Most Valuable Player this season.

Paige Bueckers Gets Massive Praise From Reigning NBA MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander

Reigning NBA MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was in attendance to watch Paige Bueckers put on another dazzling performance against the Toronto Tempo on Sunday.

After the game, the two linked up, and Gilgeous-Alexander had some praise for Bueckers.

“Way to hoop. Keep going, love your game,” he said.

    Bueckers replied:

    “Big fan. Appreciate you.”

It’s well known among WNBA fans that Bueckers loves operating in the mid-range, a trait that has also become a signature part of Gilgeous-Alexander’s game. Both stars rely on footwork, patience, and elite shot creation to dominate from the mid-range rather than depending solely on the 3-point shot.

She has grown her game over the course of her two seasons in the league, but whether that translates into an MVP award the way it did for Gilgeous-Alexander remains to be seen.
