Chicago Sky star Rickea Jackson was recently ruled out for the remainder of her team’s most recent regular season game in the 2026 WNBA season. On Sunday, April 17, Jackson and the rest of coach Tyler Marsh’s Sky team are going up against coach Cheryl Reeve’s Minnesota Lynx in the latter’s home floor, the Target Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

As it turns out, Jackson suffered a left knee injury during the matchup. At the 5:24 mark of the second quarter, Jackson dealt with the setback after she collided with a defender as she was driving for a potential layup. Jackson was going right, and the physical contact with her defender caused her body to shift left.

This caused the 25-year-old to put her weight on her left knee, which buckled, causing her to fall to the ground. Jackson wailed in pain as she was holding on to her knee and was subsequently helped off the court.

Since then, a report by the Chicago-based franchise’s official X/Twitter account confirms that Jackson has indeed suffered a knee injury and will not return to the away game against the Lynx. This was a huge blow for the Sky, as Jackson was their leading scorer thus far this season heading into the tightly-contested affair. On the year, Jackson is averaging 22.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 2.0 blocks in around 35.7 minutes per game.

Jackson has played all three games so far for the Sky in the current campaign. This is her third year in the WNBA overall, but first in Chicago. The former Tennessee Volunteers standout spent her first two seasons in the league with the Los Angeles Sparks. This past offseason, she was traded to the Sky in exchange for guard Ariel Atkins. Jackson was selected by the Sparks with the fourth overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft.

The Chicago Sky still defeated the Minnesota Lynx without Rickea Jackson for most of the game

Even if their leading scorer in Rickea Jackson was ruled out after the mid-point of the second period, the Chicago Sky still ended up beating the Minnesota Lynx by seven points, 86-79.

Rookie Gabriela Jaquez took care of the scoring load with a team-high 20 points, while center Kamila Cardoso pitched in a double-double of 11 points and 12 rebounds. Jackson finished with six points, one rebound, and a block in 11 minutes played.
