Jalen Rose’s daughter, popular WNBA journalist Mariah Rose, has sparked controversy with her dig at Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever. In one of her videos on her Instagram channel, Hoops for Hotties, Rose talked about the political registration of players in the US’s top sports leagues.
Rose analysed the findings of a Vote Hub study based on public data from a few US states, and added her comments based on players’ ethnicity. When the WNBA came on the report, it showed that 67.5% of players identified as Democrats. Highlighting the percentage of Republican players in the graph (2.3%), Rose commented:
“As if I needed to see this. It is very obvious that the 2.3% Republican are all members of the Indiana Fever.”
Fans took to the comment section to express their outrage at Rose’s dig at Caitlin Clark. The WNBA content creator is a well-known Angel Reese fan and is often seen criticizing Clark, clarifying her stance on the great rivalry. One fan wrote:
“This nepo baby’s favorite name to use for engagement is likely more woke than some of y’all’s fave players but that discussion never goes over well. “
Another wrote:
“Just STFU you twit.”
One fan pointed to loopholes in the report and factual details and wrote:
“How do you get 3.3 people out of 144 players? Also, Sophie was with the Mercury in 2024. This might be meant as a joke, but it’s factually ignorant, so it’s not funny. And it’s cringe. Grow up.”
Another user wrote:
“This is a sign of low iq”
A user wrote:
“this is all wrong. There is only one GOP – Sophie. everyone else are dem. she is feeding into wnba mass hysteria and corrupting fanbase that bring them cash. seriously slow people.”

Mariah Rose often gets surrounded by criticism due to her extreme takes on social media, which are often political. She even recently caught attention for her hot take on LeBron James and his MLK-themed shoes.
Besides Caitlin Clark, Mariah Rose criticizes LeBron James’ MLK-themed shoes
LeBron James launched his new Nike shoes as a tribute to Martin Luther King Jr. The colorway of the shoes was inspired by the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, where MLK was killed. However, fans and analysts did not receive the new launch positively.

Mariah Rose also commented on James’ new shoes and wrote on Instagram:
“Stop turning tragedy into products, especially if you’re not going to use the products to fund causes that matter”
A lot of analysts pointed to those arguments and expressed their disagreement with LeBron launching the MLK-themed shoes.
