The Indiana Fever have started promoting their June 4 matchup against the Atlanta Dream, and this season, the first-ever clash between the Fever and the Dream will take on another layer of significance. This past weekend, the Fever tweeted that the June 4 game will be presented as part of Pride Night, going with the tagline “Love is love.”
Some fans, however, were not pleased with this theme for the Fever vs. Dream game.
“No. Keep queerness out of sports. Stick to hoops.”
“absolutely disgusting….. get that bs out of sports”
“So you support surgery on children. Is that what you are promoting?”
“To the @NBA and @WNBA: Sports leagues should be about sports. Hence, concentrate on basketball and not your agenda.”
Meanwhile, other netizens came to the Fever’s defense.
“I don’t care about your politics, sexual preferences, religion,or race. Just play ball!!!”
“I love how much a little multi colored logo ‘offends’ y’all”
Aside from Pride Night, the June 4 matchup will also feature the first clash between Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese in the 2026 campaign.
Clark and Reese, who have been battling intensely since their college days, have had memorable encounters in their first two seasons in the WNBA. During the Fever’s season opener last year, Clark committed a flagrant foul on Reese (then playing for the Chicago Sky) that she later called a “basketball play.”
Reese may have moved over to Atlanta, but it doesn’t look like her rivalry with Clark is going to subside any time soon.
Caitlin Clark Calls Out Fever Teammates for Lack of Effort on Defense in First Three Games
The Fever, however, have gotten off to a less-than-ideal start this season. They notched an 87-78 win over the LA Sparks, but they lost two close encounters against the Dallas Wings and the Washington Mystics.
In an interview with The Athletic, Caitlin Clark had something to say about her teammates’ effort on the defensive end.
“Everyone wants to guard when they’re making shots…[But] when things aren’t going well, we still gotta be able to defend.”
The Fever will have to clamp down on the defensive end if they are to pull off a victory against the Seattle Storm on Sunday.
