Caitlin Clark has been one of the most talked-about players in the WNBA over the past few years, while some see her as the face of the league, others point to her inconsistency throughout the season.
Clark gave one of the best performances of her career in a recent game against the Seattle Storm when she became the first player in the league’s history to record a 40-point, 10-assist game.
Talking about how Clark is the undisputed star of the team, 4x WNBA Champion, Cynthia Cooper, spoke about how the Fever team is different when the former Iowa star is on it vs when she is off the team.
“Well, when you don’t have Caitlin, it’s almost easier because you know who your go-to player is. When you have Caitlin, now you have to balance it. And I akin it to Cheryl Swoops and Cynthia Cooper.” WNBA Champion said. “Like, you have Tina Thompson, for goodness sake. You have these three incredible players on your team, Hall of Famers on your team. But you still need to know the pecking order. You have to know the pecking order because every team is going to try to exploit it.”
“Every single team. Because you are the level that they want to be at. And so they’re trying to pull you down or climb up. And you have to know in important moments where we’re going, what we’re doing, who we’re going to. And that person sometimes isn’t the one that shoots the ball. She just makes the play. It could be a dump off to Boston. It could be a dump off to a three-point shot for Caitlin. It could be a dump off for a three-point shot from Kelsey, but you have to know.”
Dave Portnoy Reacts to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s Caitlin Clark Remark
Former NBA star Kareem Abdul-Jabbar recently made a statement about Caitlin Clark that stunned many fans and analysts.
Abdul-Jabbar said that he doesn’t see Clark as the face of the WNBA and even added that he thinks it’s disrespectful to other players to call her that.
Reacting to the viral statement, Dave Portnoy came to Clark’s defense and said the Indiana star never asked to be the face of the league, adding that she has always shown respect to those who came before her.
“Was it disrespectful to past tennis players when Serena and Venus instantly
became faces of women’s tennis, or Tiger with golf? The market dictates who the face of the league is, and it’s clearly Caitlin.”
Portnoy further said that Abdul-Jabbar’s argument is “steeped in jealousy and stupidity.”
