Caitlin Clark has had a difficult season so far. She has suffered a lot of criticism. Many believe she has also been a recipient of hate. She has garnered a lot of attention all her career. Even in college, Clark was the major talking point. Now in her third season in the WNBA, the Indiana Fever star is one of the best players in the league. However, she has had her fair share of issues.
She has had a lot of run-ins with the referees all season long. Her fans have questioned the decisions that have been against her. The Fever coach Stephanie White has also voiced her discontent over Clark’s treatment. During the All-Star weekend, former POTUS Barack Obama met with Clark and shared a special message. Analyst Robin Lundberg explained why that moment was really significant for Clark and everyone around her.
“It was what he said to Caitlyn Clark that really really uh resonated and I think is important. I think it’s actually like significant what he said to Caitlin Clark both for her and for everything around her considering who the messenger is in this case,” Lundberg said (0:57).
“Nonsense is a really good word. And that was really sweet. I thought it was just really sweet. And they took a picture together, but he she pulled uh the Fever into it, the rest of the Fever players into the photo. Caitlyn Clark, Kelsey Mitchell, Aaliyah Boston, Barack Obama. But that last message, you’re a hooper, right? You’re a hooper. That resonated,” he said (3:14).
What did Barack Obama say to Caitlin Clark?
Obama walked up to Clark among other players and said very kind words. He told Clark not to let all the “nonsense” get her down.
“I always say one of the things that was lucky I didn’t get famous till I was like 45. So, I was an old man. I mean, you’re my daughter’s age and I to have that much you know, burden nonsense. So, don’t lose that joy,” Obama said to Clark (2:46).
He also called Clark a hooper and said that she always hoops. Clark loved the interaction and said that she was nervous while talking with him. She shared that her hands unusually got sweaty and clammy. She said that she would remember the interaction all her life.
