The Indiana Fever has concluded its preseason schedule after playing the Nigerian national team in the last game. The Fever has been trying new things and combinations after the roster overhaul this offseason. Before the regular season kicks off, let’s look at the roster and who is ready to begin the season with a bang.
Caitlin Clark’s duties have sort of changed since the franchise acquired Raven Johnson in the WNBA draft. Evidently, Stephanie White has shifted Clark to play off the ball, while Johnson brings the ball up the court. In the last game against the Nigerian national team, the Fever squad dominated, 105-57.
How prepared are the Indiana Fever before the regular season kicks off?
Aliyah Boston took the court for the first time. Even though she had just four points in 10 minutes, her court vision was elite, dishing out six assists. Before the Fever’s first regular-season game on May 8, the two superstars, Boston and Clark, looked prepared. In her latest video, WNBA commentator Rosalina Lee shared her take on the Fever’s preparedness before the new era of the WNBA begins.
Talking about Damiris Dantas, Lee shared her concerns from the Fever vs Wings preseason game and said:
“The 0-8 that she (Dantas) shot in the last game from the 3-point line did have me concerned a little bit because Damiris Dantas was in her head, but it reminded me a lot of what looked bad from her last season. But she was hitting her 3s in this game (against Nigeria) but almost all of them were wide-open 3s.”
Dantas plays as a backup to Boston when the elite center is not on the court. The Fever needs her to perform better if they don’t want to be in the same situation they had with Clark last season. Even though Monique Billings was played as a starter in the preseason games, she could not hit double digits in any of the three games.
Talking about Shatori Walker-Kimbrough, Lee stated that she was “pretty solid” in the preseason games and the team might expect her to give good minutes off the bench. Myisha Hines-Allen, on the other hand, is surely going to be on the roster, given her experience in the league and her protected contract. However, she did not seem to be fully comfortable against Nigeria, which is not a good sign.
The newly signed backup point guard, Tyasha Harris, was also lacklustre in the last preseason game. She could not score a single field goal and added just two points via free throws. Makayla Timpson looked good in pick-and-roll plays with Raven Johnson and converting passes from the PG. She also has a way of getting fouls as a big. Meanwhile, Lexie Hull has not played any preseason games due to her hamstring injury.
The final 12-woman roster prediction for Indiana Fever
The Fever squad might look something like this, starting May 8.
PG – Raven Johnson and Tyasha Harris
SG – Caitlin Clark, Kelsey Mitchell, and Shatori Walker-Kimbrough
SF – Lexie Hull, Sophie Cunningham, and Myisha Hines-Allen
PF – Aliyah Boston and Damiris Dantas
C – Makayla Timpson and Monique Billings
