Despite some splash of controversy here and there, Paige Bueckers and Dallas Wings have made a decent start to the season. They drafted Azzi Fudd as the number 1 pick and she has already shown signs of being a great WNBA player. There have been questions and doubts around head coach Jose Fernandez’s decisions over the course of 7 games so far.

Wings are set to play vs A’ja Wilson’s Las Vegas Aces in their 8th game of the season. The injury report suggested that Arike Ogunbowale and Alanna Smith were doubtful due to illness and Paige Bueckers was marked probable due to some discomfort in her left leg. While Alanna Smith was declared out, Paige and Arike both are in the starting five.

However, the injury report did make the fans laugh as Paige Bueckers and Jessica Shepard accidentally became the face of a light hearted joke. Couple days ago Paige Bueckers posted a picture of Jessica grilling some food on her Instagram. She captioned the picture, “Daddy on the grill,” with heart eye emojis. That hilarious caption had fans hysterical but when Arika and Alanna were doubtful due to illness, fans couldn’t stop but make jokes.

“Daddy get off the grill,” one fan joked making the connection between grill and the illness.

“I’m cryingggg,” one fan was hysterical.

“Lmao poisoned the whole squad,” one fan joked.

    “Lmfaooooo crying,” another commented.

    “Diabolical tweet,” one fan said.

“She sacrificed them so Azzi and Awak could get in the starting lineup, I respect it,” one fan said jokingly.

“Ts frying me,” one fan said.

Plenty of other fans laughed and playfully became the part of a light hearted joke.

Azzi Fudd gets her first WNBA start after 7 games

After playing 6 games coming off the bench, Fudd will finally be in the starting lineup against Las Vegas Aces. Head coach Jose Fernandez was grilled by the fans as well as the reporters about why Fudd is not starting games. Jose kept his ground and said that the number one pick  will need to earn that starting spot.

And earn she did. Azzi Fudd broke couple of records in the last game. She came off the bench to play 32 minutes and ended up with 24 points with 6 three pointers. This was the most in franchise history for a rookie. She also scored 17 of those 24 points in the third quarter, making her the rookie with most points in a single quarter.
