“If Ime Udoka Got Fired for Cheating”: Sheryl Swoopes’ Brother Adds Fuel to NFL Mike Vrabel Debate Amid Dianna Russini Scandal

Brandon Swoopes, who is the brother of WNBA legend Sheryl Swoopes, gave his thoughts on the NFL’s stance on the Mike Vrabel and Dianna Russini situation.

Pictures of the New England Patriots coach and former Athletic reporter Dianna Russini went viral on social media a few days ago, prompting an investigation. Russini stepped down from her role at the Athletic following the backlash.

The NFL, meanwhile, announced on Saturday that it will not be launching an investigation into the matter. Brandon Swoopes reacted to the announcement on Instagram, comparing it to Ime Udoka’s situation with the Boston Celtics.

“Now kill ain’t messy… but if Ime Udoka got fired for cheating and wasn’t married…then Mike Vrabel should definitely be on the hot seat, right? Didn’t they fire Sherrone Moore as well?” Swoopes wrote.

The Boston Celtics suspended Udoka for the 2022-23 season after a law firm probe into the Celtics found that Udoka had used “crude” language with a female subordinate before the pair started an improper workplace relationship.

Meanwhile, Moore was fired in December after spending two seasons at the University of Michigan. The university cited an inappropriate relationship with a staff member as the reason for Moore’s dismissal.

Mike Vrabel and Dianna Russini respond to cheating allegations

Mike Vrabel and Dianna Russini responded publicly to the allegations around the pictures of their interaction. Shortly after the story broke, Russini resigned from the Athletic, calling the narrative self-feeding.

“I have covered the NFL with professionalism and dedication throughout my career, and I stand behind every story I have ever published. … Commentators in various media have engaged in self-feeding speculation that is simply unmoored from the facts.

“Rather than allowing this to continue, I have decided to step aside now … I do so not because I accept the narrative that has been constructed around this episode, but because I refuse to lend it further oxygen or to let it define me or my career.”

Meanwhile, Vrabel gave a statement to the Post, calling any suggestions of a relationship between him and Russini laughable.

“These photos show a completely innocent interaction and any suggestion otherwise is laughable,” Vrabel said in his statement. “This doesn’t deserve any further response.”

With the NFL deciding not to investigate the situation, it is unlikely that Mike Vrabel will face any disciplinary actions.
