Angel Reese has had a difficult season containing the ball. The Atlanta Dream’s newest star is averaging a career-high 4.3 turnovers in seven games despite a comparatively low usage and assist rate. Reese’s frustrations with herself seemingly boiled over in Tuesday’s 91-75 win against the Connecticut Sun after she committed an avoidable turnover in the first quarter.
Reese was open on the perimeter on the left side of the floor as she waited for one of her teammates to cut to the basket. However, the Dream significantly delayed the action, and one of the Sun’s players blindsided Reese and snatched the ball. Reese committed a foul and screamed while walking towards the bench.
She put her head down and looked dejected about that possession while she took a breather on the sidelines. That incident went viral after a parody page named House of Lowlights posted the video on X.
It gave Reese’s critics the perfect opportunity to call her out on the outburst.
A Caitlin Clark fan called out the lack of attention to that incident and compared it to the reaction around the Fever star doing something similar, saying:
“If Caitlin did this…..”
One fan added:
“She’s acting like she’s in practice and nobody is going to take the ball from her.”
Another said:
“Reese is possibly the worst ‘star’ player I’ve ever seen in any sport.”
One fan wrote:
“That was on her, she gotta work on that on court awareness. Tunnel vision.”
Another said:
“She ends up in this position a lot cause she can’t dribble, she always waits for a handoff lol.”
“How is she still in the league, meanwhile, HVL is not?”
Angel Reese overcomes turnover problems in latest outing
Angel Reese committed only two turnovers in Tuesday’s win against the Sun. She had 12 points, 13 rebounds, and five assists. Seven of those rebounds came on the offensive end. Reese shot 4 of 9 and made her first 3-pointer of the year. She finished with a team-high box-plus-minus of +23.
Reese and Co. improved to 5-2. They are leading the Eastern Conference and are second in the league-wide standings. Reese is settling in well after initial chemistry and rhythm issues in the new system following her offseason trade.
She’s been vital to the team’s success as the Dream are unbeaten in games she’s recorded a double-double. Reese seems on course to finally make her postseason debut with how things have gone in the first month of the season.
