Before Caitlin Clark took the WNBA by storm alongside Kelsey Mitchell and Aliyah Boston, she was teaming with Kate Martin on a wildly successful Iowa Hawkeyes lineup. Somehow, Clark and Martin got to link up once again amidst their busy WNBA schedules. (CC, in particular, has been in the headlines lately after her highly physical sequence with Alyssa Thomas during a Fever-Mercury game this past week.)
When Martin’s LA Sparks visited Gainbridge Fieldhouse to battle Clark’s Indiana Fever on Saturday night, the two former Hawkeyes posed for a couple of pics. Poetically, the photographer taking these snapshots was Bri Lewerke, who has covered Clark’s career since her college days.
Seeing the two former backcourt partners brought happiness to the hearts of fans online.
“What a great game tonight and confidence builder for those that don’t play much!”
“My girl CC is all smiles. I’m happy she’s ok”
“Today was a good day for them to be reunited. One of CC’s biggest support systems, Kate!!”
“CC Kate and I saw Gabbie is in the house. All is right in the world.”
“Now we need a pic of CC, Kate, and Gabbie”
“Love them”

While Clark is in year three with the Fever, Martin is playing for her third WNBA team this season. After getting drafted in the second round of the 2024 WNBA draft by the Las Vegas Aces, Martin went on to be acquired by the Golden State Valkyries in their expansion draft.
Last month, Martin was waived by the Valkyries; after getting cut, she signed a player development deal with the Sparks.
Both players, however, were out of action on Saturday. Clark has been dealing with back issues, while Martin is recovering from a knee strain.
“They’re Definitely Targeting Her”: Sophie Cunningham Accuses WNBA of Mishandling Calls Towards Caitlin Clark
While Caitlin Clark and Kate Martin were all smiles as they posed for the cameras, Sophie Cunningham was all business on Saturday’s episode of her “Show Me Something” podcast.
In this episode, Cunningham called out WNBA officials for supposedly having an agenda against her Fever teammate.
“You see the videos of literally kneeing and cheapshotting C in the throat…They’re definitely targeting her and the league and the refs do nothing about it.” [0:21]
Cunningham added that, during the Fever’s 111-109 loss to the Mercury this past Wednesday, she didn’t see Alyssa Thomas supposedly ramming her arm onto Clark’s throat in real time. According to Cunningham, she and her teammates would have had Clark’s back if they had seen the sequence promptly.
