According to WNBA reporter Roberta, the Las Vegas Aces have emerged as Gabby Williams’ preferred destination in free agency. Williams bid farewell to the Seattle Storm in an Instagram post on Friday.
She had been with the Storm since the 2022 season and played 102 games for the team, averaging 9.7 points, 4.4 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game, shooting 42.9%. According to a report from Clutch Points, the Minnesota Lynx and Golden State Valkyries could also be potential destinations for Williams.
She played 44 games last season, averaging 11.6 points, 4.3 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 2.3 steals per game. Williams is not a volume scorer but is highly rated due to her stellar impact on both ends of the floor. She finished third in Defensive Player of the Year voting last season.
If Williams signs with the Aces, Las Vegas’ backcourt will consist of some of the league’s best guards, including Chelsea Gray, Jackie Young and Jewell Loyd, who have already signed deals to return next season.
For the Storm, Williams essentially filled the gap left by Jewell Loyd, and the two could now team up on the Aces.
Gabby Williams credits Unrivaled with “saving” the WNBA
Speaking to the media last season, Gabby Williams gave her unfiltered opinion on the Unrivaled League’s impact on the WNBA, citing the 3v3 league’s benefits.
“I think Unrivaled saved the WNBA’s butt this year because a lot of players made it on time to training camp,” Williams said on the “Good Game” podcast with Sarah Spain. “Which is ironic that the W doesn’t like Unrivaled because the W wouldn’t have had a lot of players without Unrivaled because of prioritization.”
Before Unrivaled debuted in 2025, players would often head overseas in the offseason in search of higher paychecks. The emergence of a homegrown league and the new CBA should help manage overseas competition.
While Williams has high praise for Unrivaled, she has yet to participate in the league, instead playing in Europe and for the French national team during the offseason.
