Caitlin Clark’s 45-point outing against the Seattle Storm was long overdue. Besides her offensive onslaught, the Indiana Fever guard’s clutch block on Flau’jae Johnson has taken over social media. The moment occurred in the fourth quarter when the two teams were tied at 102. However, the slow-motion video showed that Clark might have caught Johnson on her hand. When a media person pointed that out, fans were not happy.
Storm head coach Sonia Raman was also asked about the play while she talked to the media after the 110-107 loss. Notably, the team had the option to take a review, but it decided not to. The coach also highlighted it in her response. However, the reporter who asked the question noticeably called the play a “foul.”
The women’s basketball reporter Roberta F. Rodrigues shared other posts on X, stating that it was a foul, though it was given a block. The reporter wrote:
“Nope. Cancel. That was a big foul. Not complaint to the refs this time huh.”
Fans disagreed with the media analyst in the comments section, as one wrote:
“Not a foul, hands are part of the ball”
Another user slammed Roberta:
“Your tears are delightful”
One Fever fan believed that the reporter was mad at Fever’s win:
“Buddy so mad that the fever won”
Another user stated:
“Hand is apart of the ball no? Is that not the rules”
This user asked:
“Why didn’t Flau’jae requested for a challenge? They had one more”
The controversy over Clark’s clutch defensive play on the 2026 WNBA draft’s eighth overall pick would go a long way. Regardless, it was a great game for both teams and much-needed for Clark’s confidence.
Caitlin Clark’s return to form helps the Fever to a much-needed win
Caitlin Clark has been under scrutiny since the start of the season, and she did not feel comfortable shooting the ball. However, in Friday’s game, she shot 11-18 from the field and 6-10 from deep. Even with Aliyah Boston’s absence from the lineup due to a right lower leg injury, the guard took the lead with Kelsey Mitchell and registered a win.
Clark now has another record in her name: the first 40+ points and 10 assists game in WNBA history. The Fever will now face the New York Liberty in the next game, looking to extend their winning run.
