Shortly after being selected by the Golden State Valkyries with the No. 8 pick, Flau’jae Johnson was traded to the Seattle Storm. The former LSU Tigers women’s basketball guard wasted no time showing how excited she was to join her first professional team, posting frequently across her social media accounts.
Among those posts, Johnson also made it clear she was eager to share the floor with Dominique Malonga. She reposted a photo of the two sharing a hug and added the caption:
“That fast break dunk gone feed families 😩”
The post quickly got Seattle fans buzzing, garnering more than 120,000 views within 12 hours. Fans flooded social media with reactions:
“Seattle gonna be a fun team to watch,” @Ku_Lo_Snooze said.
“we’re ready demon😭💚,” @wnbabaII wrote.
“Lob city 😂👀,” @7getrich_griff said.

Flau’jae Johnson’s excitement comes from Malonga’s ability to dunk, a rare trait among women’s players. The French phenom has already thrown down dunks at the international level and during Unrivaled 2026. She has not recorded one yet in the WNBA, but Johnson seems confident she might be the one setting it up with the assist on Malonga’s first league dunk.
Flau’jae Johnson reacts to being traded mid-draft
Flau’jae Johnson may have been moved in a mid-draft trade, but it did nothing to dim her excitement after achieving the lifelong dream of becoming a WNBA player. Although the trade came as a surprise, she chose to embrace the moment with pure joy.
“I didn’t know anything, it was a total surprise,” Johnson said in an interview with Good Morning America. “I’m excited to be with the Storm. The main thing for me was getting my name called. It was no stress, all I had to do was look really pretty, and I had no control over who picked me. But I’m glad Seattle got me, they got a good one, they really wanted me, so I’m excited to be there.”
Flau’jae Johnson now joins three other rookies from the 2026 draft class in Seattle: No. 3 pick Awa Fam Thiam, No. 14 pick Taina Mair, and No. 39 pick Grace VanSlooten.
